EXPERIENCE Recently retired from thirty years of Marine Corp military service. Specialty : Aviation Maintenance. and Quality Assurance. From 1977 to 1978, I worked for the Century Boat Company in Manistee, Michigan. I spent six months building hulls and decks, with hand rolled layup, and by use of a chop gun. I spent another six months working in final finishing, and did electrical wiring, fuel line routing, and interior build up. I quit this job to join the Marine Corps. In 1983, I bought a 16 foot Renken runabout with a 65 HP Evinrude engine. I did an extensive rebuild of this boat, to include interior work and rewiring of the electrical system. In 1991, I bought a 23 foot Hunter sail boat. I did my first major hull strip and bottom paint on this boat. In 1998, I bought a 19 foot West Wight Potter sail boat, brand new. I added a GPS with depth sounder and replaced the compression post with a stouter piece of wood. I also replaced the ports and upgraded the water system. In 2003, I bought a 1988 Com-Pac 27 II. I refinished the interior of this boat, wired in a new radio and chart plotter (with sonar), replaced the plumbing and the head, and painted the deck and hull. Numerous other upgrades were completed, since I have owned this boat for ten years. In 2010, I was given a 1976 Cape Dory 25 project boat. This boat was on the hard for fifteen years and left open, it was a mess. I completely gutted and rebuilt the interior of this boat. The deck core had become compromised and water had gotten into the core. I rebuilt and reglassed the deck, and also resurfaced the deck. I unstepped and rewired the mast, and painted the hull and deck. I will replace all the ports in the future. In addition to my own boats, I have done extensive rework on many of my friends boats, both power and sail. I have had a lifelong passion for all things boats and feel a career in Marine Surveying would not only be rewarding, but a great way to cap off my productive working years of life.
